Our Story — TRS The Runners Sock

Hi, I'm Casey.

I'm building a running sock brand from scratch with no experience building a business. I'm documenting everything as I go. This is that story.

The runner

Three years ago I stopped smoking, cut out drinking, and started running. What began as getting fitter turned into something I genuinely hadn't expected. Clarity. A better headspace. A real love for being outside.

Running along the coast became my thing. Fresh air, the ocean, just moving. I started entering races and found something I didn't know existed in sport. A community that just gets it. The nod you get from a stranger at 6am. The respect at a finish line. It doesn't matter if you're running 5k or 42k. Everyone out there is doing something hard, and everyone knows it.

The gap

When I started training seriously I went looking for a running sock worth wearing. Something that performed, fit properly, and actually looked good. I couldn't find one from a brand that cared about the sock itself rather than just putting a logo on a generic product.

I found a specialist pair at a marathon expo, a one-off with no real brand behind it. They were the best socks I'd worn. About a year later the thought hit me. Nobody owns this space. No brand had made the running sock their whole focus.

So I decided to build one. With no experience in manufacturing, no background in business, and no idea how to bring a product to market. What I did have was a clear sense of what a good running sock actually needs to feel like. After years of running and testing everything out there, I knew exactly what was missing. That felt like enough of a reason to start.

The sock

TRS took about a year to get right. Every detail designed from scratch. The moisture control fabric, the cushioning on the toes and heels, the midfoot band, the mesh ventilation zones. Even the hidden messages inside and the blue diamond detail on the stripe.

Then I tested them properly. Six months, over a thousand kilometres. The cushioning held. The compression held. The fit stayed exactly where it should. Still performing the same as day one. That's how I know it's worth it.

The purpose

TRS is built to be more than a product. Running genuinely changed my life and I want the brand to reflect that. The end goal is to build something meaningful enough to retire my mum. To give my family the freedom that comes from building something real.

As TRS grows, supporting causes that matter to runners — mental health, getting people moving — is something we're actively building towards.

I'm figuring it out as I go, building something I believe in, one pair at a time.
